Now That Was Easy - Early Voting Provides Lots of Options

10/26/2010

I love going to the polls on Election Day. In fact, I look forward to it with great anticipation.  I'm one of those early-rising voters.  I get up even earlier than usual on Election Days and head over to the school where I vote, aiming to be one of the first in line at my precint. It's exciting to sign the voting register and then to stand in the voting booth, having my say in who represents me in city, township, county, state, and federal governments and in the courts. I love wearing that red sticker that the poll workers hand out - the one that says "I Voted Today!"  It's a powerful moment. When I vote I sense the union of my self with my fellow citizens as we stand to be counted and to help shape the future of our country.  We are all making a difference.

I won't be able to vote on November 2 and I'm going to miss my early morning voting routine.  It's been my regular routine for nearly every election in which I've been eligible to vote for the past 28 years and is my favorite way to vote.  For this election I made use of Ohio's early voting laws and went to the Franklin County Board of Elections to cast my ballot today.  And, it was easy!!!!

The people were friendly and helpful, the process was very quick, and I even got to park for free -- downtown (which if you live, work, or play in downtown Columbus, you know how rare that is)!

With several voting options available to us, there is no reason not to vote.   You can vote at the polls on November 2, complete an absentee ballot from home, or vote early at your county's early voting site.  I have used all three, and they are all very simple and straight-forward.

Do you want some time to sit down with the ballot and Ohio Righ to Life's list of endorced candidates?  No problem - just request an absentee ballot and vote from home.  Note that an application by mail must be received by noon on the third day before the election and the completed ballot postmarked and in the mail by November 1 in order to be included in the tally!  You're cutting it kind of close to do an at-home absentee ballot, so don't put it off if that's how you want ot vote!

Are you like me and you like to vote in person?  That's easy too!  Just head on down to your county's early voting site and cast your ballot.  This is what I did today and it took me all of 10 minutes to park, sign in, vote, and get that all-important sticker to wear the rest of the day!  Just like going to the polls on election day, make sure to bring your I.D.

So I got my sticker today and I'm happily wearing it as I sit at my laptop and write this blog entry.  Instead of "I Voted Today" my sticker says "I made a difference. So can you. Vote."

Please make a difference.  Please take your pro-life views to the ballot box and cast your vote in this very important election.
