5 Most Egregious Things

6/14/2016

The 5 Most Egregious Things to Happen at City Council Tonight:

Tonight was the "Public Hearing" on 1548-2016. Thanks to everyone who came out. For those who missed it, here were the five most egregious things to happen...

5: Teeny Tiny Room
Picture
Seriously, did they look for the smallest room possible? There was room in the hearing, counting standing room, for maybe 60 people.

4: Dozens Locked Out
Picture
Because City Council choose such a small location, dozens who wanted to attend were locked out of the building.

3: City Police Officer Lied
Picture
Columbus police officer Nicole, who occasionally worked as a private duty police officer at Founder's, told city council members of her experiences with volunteers. One anecdote that she shared was that volunteers would lie to women by telling them that the abortion clinic had employed a known sex offender, when that was not true. Except, it was true. Read all about it here: http://www.gcrtl.org/blog/abortion-provider-indicted-on-child-pornography-charges

Note: updated post includes a link at the bottom of this entry to the full hearing.  You can watch Officer Nicole lie about this at the 1:05:27 point.

2: Public Testimony Limited
Although billed as a public hearing which would allow proponents and opponents of the proposal to testify for/against the law in 3-minute, alternating witness statements, City Council filled the time with member statements, a presentation from their attorney, and the statements of one officer mentioned above. In total, only about fifteen minutes of the 5:30-7:00pm hearing were allotted to opponent speakers.

1: It Was All A Farce
It was all a farce anyway, and it was obvious that this was little more than for-show hearing. City Council already showed its hand that it intends to act on this proposal next Monday.

We aren't going to let it happen without trying to stop it, though.

In in less than a week, we have gathered thousands of postcards from opponents of the proposed law, and more than 500 have signed our petition (www.gcrtl.org/city-council). Join us!

Watch the full hearing.  To skip to the part where Officer Nicole lies about an abortion doctor being charged as a sex offender, forward to the 1:05:27 mark when Councilwoman Brown asks her about her experiences.

Children: Black or Red Ink on the Balance Sheet for Families and Society?

7/30/2012

It’s common to see or read news articles on the cost of raising children.  A recent government study tells us that it will cost nearly $235,000 (in 2011 dollars) to raise a child from birth to age 18.  This blog post by Len Penso on msn.com’s money page bemoans additional costs not included in the government study, making
the toll even higher.

These articles can instill fear and deter couples from having more – or any – children. I don't know about you, but I don't have a quarter of a million dollars just laying around and I doubt that I ever wil.   Even worse, by placing a price tag on child-rearing, these articles paint children as only a line-item on the family’s and society’s balance sheets – and a liability line item at that!

Assets:  House, Car, Income
Liabilities:  Mortgage, Car Loan, Bobby, Jr., Mary Jane
Equity:  Checking Account, Savings Account, 401k

Really???  Is that how we see children – a financial burden that sucks every dime out of our financial future?  Is a child just a cost center in the family budget?

I’d like to see some articles about the benefits of child-rearing.  Children are an incredible gift to a family and to society.

So let’s hear from you. How have children been a blessing and benefit to your family and society?

$100 Million Donation to Pro-Abortion Human Rights Watch

9/9/2010

This morning LifeNews.com reported that billionaire George Soros has committed to donate $100 million to the pro-abortion Human Rights Watch. New York based Human Rights Watch actively promotes abortion and even goes so far as to attack countries that protect the lives of the innocent pre-born.  Their report "A State of Isolation: Access to Abortion for Women in Ireland", claims that Ireland, which has not legalized abortion, is in violation of international law.  In August of this year HRW published "Illusions of Care, Lack of Accountability for Reproductive Rights in Argentina", in which they claim that country is also in violation of international laws.

Organizations like Human Rights Watch are received money hand-over-fist from wealthy liberal supporters like George Soros. Others, such as Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Ted Turner, have each given millions of dollars to support abortion, sterilization and contraception of the human race.

Conversely, most pro-life organizations, including Greater Columbus Right to Life, struggle greatly to raise the funds we need to continue our work. We have very small staffs and operate almost completely through volunteer support.  Here at GCRTL, with only one staff member, we organize numerous education and advocacy events throughout the year, including
  • Rally for Life at the Ohio Statehouse
  • 40 Days for Life campaigns
  • BloodMoney: The Business of Abortion
  • Life Chain
  • Quarterly training events
  • College grant and mentoring program
  • Speakers Bureau
  • Information booths at local fairs and festival
  • And even more. . .

Just think of the impact we could have if we were able to grow our organization and to more fully fund these and other programs, such as a stronger youth education and advocacy program, seminars and workshops with visiting lecturers on topics such as care for the elderly and medically vulnerable, the value of adult stem-cell research (as opposed to life-taking embryonic stem-cell research) and others.

Please consider how you can help us to achieve our mission to promote a community the protects innocent human life from conception until natural death, and our 20/20 vision, to bring an end to abortion in Greater Columbus by the year 2020.

One way you can help is by donating online today.

Another way is by attending our annual fundraiser, Tailgate for Life, on September 26.  Our speaker, Rebecca Kiessling, will share her incredible story of learning the circumstances of her conception at the knifepoint of a serial rapist, and how God has used her to advance the cause of life.  Register today.  Better yet, sponsor a table and invite your friends to join you to hear Rebecca and to be generous in their support of GCRTL.

Thank you for supporting our work. Together, we can make a difference; we can save lives; we can bring an end to abortion in Greater Columbus by the year 2020.

Always for
Life,
