Love them All - Safe on the SidewalkWith four ways to help, anyone can be a part of our team…
Join us on the sidewalk: If you are patient, willing to work with others, and have a heart for life, you can join our sidewalk ministry team. We have the greatest need for people who are available M-F in the mornings and afternoons right now. We ask all of our volunteers to abide by a creed that includes treating all persons with dignity and respect, obeying all laws, and to practice de-escalation in any provocative situation. Rarely, this means with the clients going in and out of the abortion clinic, but most often it relates to dealing with other people exercising their first amendment right to be on the sidewalk or the employees and/or volunteers of the abortion clinic. Sidewalk Counseling: If you are interested in being part of our Sidewalk Counseling program, we have an upcoming training scheduled. To register for a class, visit here. All SWC class applicants will be vetted and asked to show proof of identity. SWC team members will also be expected to abide by and sign our Statement of Peace and our Creed. Prayer Partners: If you are not ready to become a trained Sidewalk Counselor but are interested in going to pray at an abortion clinic alongside someone who is, you can also let us know here. All Prayer Partner applicants will be vetted and asked to show proof of identity. Prayer Partner team members will also be expected to abide by and sign our Statement of Peace and our Creed. 40 Days for Life: If you would like to participate by adopting an hour individually or a day for your church or group, you can join the 40 Days for Life campaign here. Note: 40 Days runs concurrent with Lent in the Spring and from the last Weds in September through the first Sunday in November in the Fall. Signups will open about a month before each campaign. Knight Watch: The "Knight Watch" was formed by a group of Knights of Columbus in our earliest prayer ministry efforts. Many of them thought that they would be less effective as sidewalk counseling team members because of their gender and the slogan "no uterus, no opinion." They joined to provide physical and prayer support for those who did not feel physically safe coming to the abortion clinic, especially in evening hours. While we have actually seen that male sidewalk counselors and prayer partners can have a very positive reaction at the clinic, the current situation has increased interest in bringing this group back. Don't worry - while we are excited about the KoC chapters and members who are stepping up, you do not have to be a member of the KoC or even Catholic. You just have to be ready to put on the whole armor of God. To join the Knight Watch, let us know here. Knight Watch members will also be expected to abide by and sign our Statement of Peace and our Creed. |
