Speak Life Oratory ContestGreater Columbus Right to Life will be participating as a qualifying chapter in the 2022 Ohio Oratory Contest. First place will win $100 and represent central Ohio in the State Oratory Contest. A Second-Place prize of $75 and an Honorable Mention will receive $50. Winners will also receive VIP tickets to the GCRT banquet and reception with Dr. Steve Hammond, former abortion provider. The winner of the Ohio Oratory Contest will receive a scholarship to participate in the National Pro-Life Scholarship with a trip to DC.
The 2022 contest is open to students who are high school juniors and seniors (or the equivalent) and live, attend church, or go to school in Franklin, Delaware, Morrow, Union, Madison, Fairfield, Pickaway, or Licking Counties. Students residing outside of these areas but who do not have a local contest in their community may also be eligible to participate. Please contact GCRTL with questions. Students are eligible regardless of if they are homeschooled or attending public, private, or charter schools. Students who are in non-traditional programs or pursuing dual post-secondary enrollment are eligible to participate. Participating students will be asked to research, write, and give a 5-7 minute original speech on being pro-life, focusing on the subjects of abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, or stem cell research. For the successful participant, the speech may be "tweaked" between the local and state and state and national contests but the speech should remain largely the same. This year, the local contest will be conducted at the GCRTL office the evening of April 26th. Students will have the option to participate in person or remotely. Local applicants are asked to fill out the below registration by 5:00 pm, eastern, on April 22nd. You will be contacted to schedule a block of time to perform your piece. Aside from format of the judging, the contest rules and judging parameters for the local contest will follow state and national contest guidelines. If you have any questions or need any clarification, please let us know as soon as possible. Resources |
