Next Steps

Credible evidence suggests that 1243 E Broad Street - Founder's - is closing. It is mixed news, because our sources also indicate that the clinic hopes to resurface and re-open in mid-July at a new location in Northern Columbus. We are working with a coalition of other pro-life organizations to do everything possible to make sure that this closure is permanent. However, we need your help. We'll continue to update this page with verified news and information.

Here is what we know:
  • Founder's is Ohio's first abortion clinic. For nearly three decades, its office has been located at 1243 E Broad Street in a building owned by the Twelve Forty Three Company, a partnership founded by three abortion providers, two of whom are currently working at Founder's.
  • In 2012, the closure of Capital Care Network on Indianola was only a semi-closure. The building closed and the name disappeared, but the owner, Terrie Hubbard of T&S Management, took over the management and possibly ownership of Founder's. It reduced the total number of abortion clinics operating in Columbus from four to three (subsequently, one additional location has ceased doing abortions). T&S Management continued to operate a number of clinics in Ohio and Indiana. Today, only one of those is currently in operation - Capital Care Network of Toledo.
  • For years, Founder's, Capital Care Network, T&S Management, and the individual owners and physicians have been engaging in activity that ranges from the unethical to the illegal. They have been cited by health officials for sub-par facilities and failing to meet minimum standards of Ohio law. Lawsuits and legal complaints have accrued, ranging from patient malpractice claims to failure to pay local, state, and federal taxes. To date, it appears as though they owe around a million dollars to various taxing agencies.
  • This spring, we filed numerous complaints and asked the Ohio Department of Health to review them. To the best of our knowledge, investigation into those complaints has been ongoing and has not yet closed.
  • The clinic's website has indicated it is no longer taking appointments online, directing patients to call instead for appointments. Callers have been told that the location is closing as of this week and that they can make an appointment at the Toledo location or wait until mid-July at the new location. At least one patient post-abortion has reportedly indicated the same.

Here is what we've heard:
  • Rumors have surfaced that the property owners wanted the clinic to move and that evictions have been threatened. This is somewhat confusing/surprising, because the building has been owned by the doctors that perform abortions. It is possible that this is just a rumor. It is also possible that there is a disagreement between the doctors/original owners of Founder's and current management.
  • The building that we believe they hope to move into is substantially smaller than the Broad Street facility.

Here is what we are planning:
For several years now, we have successfully been serving in the role of watchdog for what is happening at local and state abortion clinics. We plan to continue in that mission. For the next few weeks, our regularly scheduled prayer volunteers will be encouraged to either maintain their currently scheduled shift but at Planned Parenthood, engage in other community activism, or take a few days to refresh and restore their spirits.
  • We will be organizing several "strike teams" similar to how we engaged with efforts to open a satellite to a Columbus abortion clinic in Pickerington in 2013. To join in that effort, let us know below.

Here is how you can help:
  • Sign up to be a member of our rapid response team. Or, if you have a tip about what is doing on, feel free to leave it for us. It will be an anonymous tip if you do not include your name or email.
  • We will have some extra costs related to this effort that are outside of our regularly budgeted expenses. If you've not given to support our work this year, or if you can give a little extra, please consider doing so. You can donate on our website. Examples of costs include printing, advertising, and possibly legal work (if they are seeking a license in another location or under a new business entity).
