Preliminary Ohio data shows a dangerous risk to the health and safety of women and unborn children under the updated label approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in March of 2016. Any effort to remove the product from the market or return to the 2011 label will be met by well-funded and politically powerful opposition, but it is our goal to continue collecting information and to work with other local and national organizations to bring this issue forward. In addition, our review of RU-486 complications in Ohio between 2012 and 2017 brought to light serious violations of Ohio's general business and abortion regulation laws.

RU-486: Dangerous for Women: Deadly for the Unborn

In this special report, Greater Columbus reviews abortion pill complication reports for hundreds of Ohio women before 2012 and 2017. Shoddy Business Practices Violate Ohio Law & Endanger Women

GCRTL Reviews the summary of compliant letters written to Ohio's Attorney General and Secretary of State that outline a tangled web of practices that can only be described as either recklessly mismanaged or systematically in violation of Ohio law with respect to a local network of abortion providers.

Abortion Pill Reversal Information

frequently asked questions

What is RU-486?
RU-486, also called Mifeprex or mifepristone, is a drug manufactured by a pharmaceutical company called Danco. It has been used in countries such as France since 1998 and was approved by the FDA for use in the US in 2000. It is a drug that acts to end a baby's life in the early stages of pregnancy by blocking progesterone. Without progesterone, the unborn baby's life is no longer supported and he or she will die. Several days after taking the Mifepristone, a woman takes a prostaglandin called misoprostol, also known as Cytotec, to expel the now deceased unborn child.

Is the Abortion Pill the Same as the Morning After Pill?
No. The morning after pill, sometimes called "Plan B" is a high dose of the same types of medicine generally found in hormonal birth control and it works in the same basic way that hormonal birth control does. That is not to say that Plan B and hormonal birth control do not contain an abortifacient element. For more information on Plan B/birth control/abortifacients, you may find this article helpful. However, know that when abortion statistics refer to medical abortions or abortion pills, they do not refer to contraception, including so-called emergency contraception.
Does This Project Mean GCRTL Is More Worried About Regulating Abortion Than Ending It?
No. Of course not. Our mission is 100% to protect innocent human life from the moment of conception until natural death. As part of that effort we work to rebuild a culture of life and communities that defend life. We think that means focusing on both the internal and the external of the human condition, and sometimes that means working to break down the popular narratives of culture that have been repeated so frequently that people believe them. That means challenging the popular trope that abortion is safe and morally acceptable. This is just one part of the work that we do, and we'd invite you to learn more and to consider joining us.
