Central Ohio Abortion by the Numbers

Each week in Franklin County, 102 pre-born children die to abortion.

19.2% of abortions performed in Ohio occur in Franklin County.

3448 pre-born residents
of Greater Columbus were aborted in 2010.

41.09% of abortions performed on Franklin County residents
are on women between the age of 19 and 24.

47.53% of Franklin County residents who underwent abortions were Black
women, but only 19.35%
of the population is Black.

U.S. Induced Abortion Facts

* Nearly half of all pregnancies to American women are unintended; four in 10 of these end in abortion.  22% of all pregnancies (excluding miscarrieages) end in abortion.

About half of American women have experienced an unintended pregnancy, and at current rates about one-third will have had an abortion by age 45

Some 1.21 million abortions were performed in 2008, down from 1.31 million abortions in 2000.

Nine in 10 abortions occur in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

A broad cross section of U.S. women have abortions

 - 57% of women have abortions are in their 20s
 - 18% are teenagers
 - 61% have one or more children
 - 45% have never married and are not cohabitating
 - 69% are economically disadvantages
 - 37% identify as Protestant and 28% as Catholic
 - 30% are non-Hispanic black women
 - 36% are non-Hispanic white women
 - 25% are Hispanic women
